Engagement Updates

Lake Grove United - Virtual Meeting - February 2, 2024

The engagement team met virtually with a group made up of community members and neighbors, neighborhood association representatives, and participants from the original City of Lake Oswego / Metro community engagement group to share project updates, identify concerns, and solicit feedback. The team will continue to periodically reach out to this group as the project moves forward. Items discussed included public art, parking, welcoming the new residents, and the special qualities of the Lake Grove area.

Lake Grove Open House - Community Gathering - February 22, 2024

The engagement team recently hosted an Open House at the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center to introduce the project, the developer, and the project team to the Lake Oswego community, and to learn more about the community’s interests and concerns surrounding development in the area. Feedback was solicited via an online survey, comment cards, and post-it note feedback boards distributed throughout the room. Design team members and Hacienda program representatives were on hand at the meet-and-greet to answer questions about project status, design evolution, parking requirements, and more. Lake Grove - Resident Focus Group #1 - July 17, 2024

The engagement team facilitated a design-centered focus group session with a group of 10 participants, including Spanish-speakers, Somali-speakers, and English-speakers. Translation services were provided. The evening session included two interactive activities highlighting interior common spaces in the future development: a “Quality of Space” exercise featuring a range of design precedents, and a “Layout Flow” exercise, exploring the relationship of spaces to each other and to building circulation. The next resident focus group, scheduled for October 2024, will look at unit design, finishes, and material selections. Key takeaways from Focus Group #1, along with annotated precedent boards, are summarized in the links below.

Lake Grove - Resident Focus Group #2 - October 3, 2024

Our second design-centered focus group, held in the Las Adelitas community room, included a group of 16 participants, including Spanish-speakers, Somali-speakers, and English-speakers. Translation services and refreshments were provided. Many focus group attendees had participated in Focus Group #1, providing continuity to the design exercises.

The evening session began with a presentation from the design team recapping key takeaways and design decisions that emerged from Focus Group #1. Overall, the group was excited about the “Lush Forest” design concept; they liked the textures and color palette of the common areas and saw their feedback from the previous focus group implemented. The design team presented options for an accent wall covering at the Mail Room, and the group voted on their favorite option.

After the presentation, the participants were divided into two teams. Each team was provided with a selection of physical material samples, including flooring, countertop, cabinet, hardware, and paint. The groups were tasked with creating a palette of materials that would be used in the residential units.

In the breakout groups, the participants discussed concerns and priorities related to material selection for the units. Key takeaways included:

  • There was a strong preference for finishes that would be easy to clean and that would hide dirt.

  • There was a general desire for some contrast between finishes (for example, counters and wall colors).

  • The group preferred Universal cabinet hardware that provided ease of use for children or elders, including individuals with arthritis

Each team collaboratively made their material selections and created a materials palette for the units. At the end of the evening, the teams each nominated a spokesperson, who presented the selections to the rest of the group. The project team will now incorporate this feedback into the final interior design of the units.

The project team will reconnect with the Resident Focus Group members once the project is in construction, and participants will be invited to attend future Groundbreaking and Grand Opening events.
